Kalamış and Fenerbahçe Marina are being reimagined with a focus on sustainability and an approach that is open to everyone. The project aims to transform the marina into a living space that fosters a stronger connection with the sea and is easily accessible to all.
Kalamış and Fenerbahçe Marina have embarked on a comprehensive renovation process guided by a new maritime vision and an approach that prioritizes urban tranquility. This transformation aims to offer Kadıköy residents an experience of higher standards. As part of the renovation, a total of 3,000 meters of waterfront is being transformed into a space where everyone can reconnect with the sea. The project will also open the Kalamış and Fenerbahçe breakwaters to public use. The breakwaters are being transformed into one of the city’s most enjoyable walking routes. A 640-meter stretch of the shoreline, previously accessible only to yacht owners, will also be opened to the public. Upon completion of the project, uninterrupted walking along the shoreline will be provided, and the beach will become more accessible.
Setur Marinas General Manager Emre Doruk stated the following in his remarks on the matter: “With this project, we are designing not just for today, but for the future. Our goal is to provide high-quality services to both the local community and our guests through an environmentally conscious and sustainable marina operation, while preserving the region’s natural beauty and generating economic, social, and cultural benefits. In this new project, we are creating social spaces that blend seamlessly with the sea; with an approach that preserves the neighborhood spirit, we are designing a natural way of life that integrates with the streets. We are adopting an approach that prioritizes not just aesthetics, but also urban tranquility. We are bringing to life a project that will add value to Kadıköy and serve as a model for Istanbul.”
Significant Increase in Green and Social Spaces
With this project, a significant transformation is taking place in the marina area, creating far more green spaces, walking paths, seating areas, and recreational spaces than currently exist. As a result of this transformation, the amount of green space increases from 5,334 m² to 17,859 m², while the dry dock area is reduced from 23,000 m² to 9,150 m². By allocating more space to greenery, trees, and social life, the plan is to create a living space where people of all ages can connect with the sea—a space in harmony with nature and respectful of all living beings.
A New Meeting Point with a 2,500 m² Plaza
The project’s core vision is to transform the marina into a vibrant, living, and dynamic gathering place that is fully integrated into the city. As part of this vision, a new 2,500-square-meter plaza is being created adjacent to the water to host art, events, and daily social life. With its dining areas, cafes, and event spaces, the new marina will become a new hub of activity in Istanbul.
Clean Energy and Sustainability Initiative
Electric Vehicle Charging Capacity to Increase Tenfold
The Kalamış and Fenerbahçe Marina Project is founded on a commitment to sustainability, with eco-friendly practices playing a key role. The focus is on renewable energy to achieve a lower-carbon, cleaner future. As part of this initiative, electric vehicle charging capacity is being increased tenfold, bringing the number of stations to over 60, and all vessels used at sea, as well as all land-based vehicles, are being converted to electric power.
Additionally, in line with the commitment to zero waste and zero discharge into the sea, the entire waste management infrastructure is being completely overhauled; recycling rates are being increased through systems that protect water resources, and water is being reclaimed via four separate systems.
An Inclusive and Nature-Harmonious Living Space for Everyone
The project also prioritizes social and environmental inclusivity. The new marina supports sailing and sports activities that connect young people with the sea, while offering an accessible living space for people with disabilities. Habitats are being created for street animals and marine life, and the marine ecosystem is being supported through artificial reef initiatives.
With this major transformation, Kalamış and Fenerbahçe Marina are evolving into a more accessible, greener, more social, and sustainable living space.
